BACKGROUND
‘Temptation’ speaks to the all-consuming power of relentless desire.” ~Jeff Martin
Temptation is a turning point for the band as it is harder and more aggressive than any other song before. Although it isn’t the first song which was written for the album, it’s the album opener with the saz intro, before the hard drums hit the scene. Temptation attuned the listeners to what they had to expect in the following a harder and louder Tea Party. The lyrics were inspired by “Jeff’s personal excesses and late nights” (Stuart Chatwood) . Temptation was the first single release of the album and first video.
SPECIAL FACTS:
- It’s not quite clear whether Rhys Fulber was considering producing the album. Rhys Fulber remembers it like this: “I am not totally sure about that story exactly but I was in Jeff’s room hearing “Transmission” in its demo stages. I think EMI thought I could help them with the electronics but Jeff seemed to have it under control when I was there“. But in the end he made a remix of Temptation, which was released as a B-Side on the Triptych(!)-Tour Edition.
- An instrumental of this song was used in Trailer Park Boys: The Movie.
- Also, this song was featured on the soundtrack of the video game Road Rash 3D.
- Additionally, this song was a track on the EA Sports NHL 2002 video game soundtrack.
- The song is covered by Nevermore and released as bonus song on their album The Obsidian Conspiracy
- This song is The Tea Party’s only US Chart entry (US Billboard Active Rock Chart #36.

VIDEO
Temptation was shot in a huge, old water tank. Complimentary to the electronically tinged music of “Transmission”, the video was shot in cool blue and grey colours.
